The only recognized membership based organisation for professional fundraisers in Southern Africa
Our dream
“Our dream is for the Southern Africa Institute of Fundraising (SAIF) to be the leading membership body for Professional Fundraisers in Africa”.
This dream can only be achieved if SAIF receives support and funding to sustain and scale up its membership. Stewardship of members is a systematic and integrated approach to building and managing relationships with prospective, current and lapsed members in order to attract and sustain your membership base. SAIF currently is the only recognized membership based organisation for professional fundraisers in Southern Africa, providing a vital service to fundraisers across the continent. We strive to be sustainable by attracting sufficient membership to provide a professional service to our members.

Our history in context
The Southern Africa Institute of Fundraising (SAIF) was formed in 1986 by a group of concerned fundraisers and leaders in the non-profit sector who felt the need for an organisation that would effectively promote and uplift the fundraising profession and fundraising practice. With the guidance of the formerly named Association of Fundraising Executives (AFRE), a global organisation with its headquarters in the USA and now known as the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), mentored and guided SAIF towards building a professional body in Southern Africa. The AFRE of the day, as well as the current AFP leadership and members, still help and encourage SAIF in its growth.
SAIF is currently the only body representing the professional fundraisers in Southern Africa. It is registered as a Non-Profit Organisation with the Department of Social Development (NPO: 008-166) with branches in Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal and Western Cape. A forum (emerging branch) is now functioning in Limpopo.
The Institute’s Constitution and founding document outlines its legal obligation and commitment to good governance. The National Council, comprising of 12 to 15 paid-up members is responsible for adherence and compliance to the Constitution and relevant legislation affecting its good standing.
All SAIF members sign and adhere to a strict code of professional ethics that are aligned to international standards and other global associations.
